It's been really cold here lately (am I allowed to complain about cold weather when I live in SC?). Anyway, no matter where you live, there's nothing better on a cold day than wrapping your hands around a warm mug, eh? Today I was craving some chai; my aunt Susan shared a cup with me over Thanksgiving that some friends from Kenya had made for her with fresh spices, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I tried to recreate it by doing the following:
Combine: 3 black tea bags
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
12 ounces boiling water
Steep 5 minutes, then add 6-8 ounces of milk (I might have used cream, but not a whole cup of course ;).
Keep on medium heat for 3 minutes, making sure milk does not boil.
Add some natural cane sugar and/or honey (I might have used both ;).
be warm!
mmmm... sounds delicious, Erin!!! I'll adjust it with my 'DariFree' (non-dairy milk alternative) and it will definitely be awesome for our Rosario cold nights in the following months :-)
ReplyDeleteyummo, if only i could drink it...
ReplyDeletesounds good :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love chai, and just can NOT find it here in Korea. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI was just clicking on next blog until Ifond yours. I recently posted a chai recipe too--from Tanzania.
ReplyDeleteYou can change the spices according to taste. So you can have peppercorns, bay leaves, but most have cardamom pods as well.
Oh thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your nice recipe...
